One of our past Chairman, Eric Brown, still sits on our committee and is passionate about bringing people into our sport, especially youngsters. To that end he is heavily involved with the Canal and River Trust (CRT) coaching programme – and is particularly keen to assist those who members of HAC, or who are thinking of joining the club.
Eric has a good video on Youtube explaining his love of the sport and the need to coach yougsters, and you can view it HERE.
CRT Coaching events are free and offer ‘one to one’ supervision, and usually run in conjunction with other coaches/participants as a group activity. They generally take the form of a booked hour’s intensive training/support session at canals and lakes in the local area.
Tackle and bait appropriate to the venue/type of coaching is provided (so if you have some of your own, please don’t bring it).
Parents/guardians are encouraged to come along to watch but, depending upon the venue, may not be able to sit in the same fishing spot as their children. However, instead of just waiting why not try angling yourself? – you could book onto the same session!
Eric has the CRT’s Level 2 (top) Angling Coaching Award, a relevant ‘Safeguarding’ Certificate, a St Johns Ambulance Health and Safety Award, and our club is also part of the ‘Clubmark’ Scheme.
He’s also a good angler so, all in all, you’ll be in very good hands!
Full details of ‘Let’s Fish’ coaching sessions and local events can be found on the CRT website, see https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/fishing/lets-fish
Once registered, or if you’ve attended an event, you’ll receive e-mail notifications of future coaching sessions.
Eric is very happy to provide further information/advice if needed.
